In 1954, the USMC and USN established a regimental landing force for the purpose of training in the multitasking effort to land, transport and offload that force onto a distant location. The island of Vieques, off the coast of Puerto Rico was chosen for the target because of its proximity to the mainland. We were there for three months before reboarding the ships and returning to the mainland. The pictures labeled "Battlecry" were of a Hollywood film crew there making action segments for the movie of that name. Lt. R.P. Wahlstedt |
