The lands of the  west-end Navy base in Vieques, have  been transferred. The magazine area, as well as Playa Punta Arenas (Green Beach) and Kiani lagoon, were transferred to U.S. Fish & Wildlife on Apr 30, 2001. The magazines were used for storage of munitions and all have been emptied. The Radar area still belongs to the Navy. The Vieques Municipality received about 4,000 acres.
